Titolo Progetto: Valutazione delle modalità gestionali in relazione al benessere animale in aziende di bovine da latte allevate nell’area sud-est della Toscana e relazioni con le produzioni quanti-qualitative
Abstract: Il settore zootecnico ha da tempo la necessità di raggiungere una serie di obiettivi tra loro interconnessi che hanno la responsabilità di portare a soluzioni d’allevamento orientate sempre più al rispetto delle necessità fisiologiche ed etologiche degli animali ed al raggiungimento di livelli di sostenibilità ottimali. Negli ultimi anni, una necessità che si è posta alla base è il miglioramento del benessere animale, una tematica che ha acquisito maggior attenzione, coinvolgendo anche consumatori e pubblico in generale, sempre più interessato a garantire buone pratiche in tutte le fasi della catena di produzione, in quanto strettamente interconnesse al benessere animale ed in grado di condizionare in modo decisivo la produzione e la sua qualità. Sono numerosi i fattori in grado di influenzare il benessere delle bovine in azienda e provocare condizioni sfavorevoli capaci di indurre l’instaurazione di un meccanismo di stress e di riflettersi sia sulla salute dell’animale, con alterazioni a livello fisiologico, sia sull’efficienza produttiva e riproduttiva, nonché sullo stato immunitario della vacca stessa. Lo scopo del progetto di ricerca è quello di indagare il livello di benessere, tramite la valutazione di indicatori diretti e indiretti, delle aziende di bovine da latte situate nell’area sud-est della Toscana, osservare e definire la correlazione che si interpone tra benessere e produzione quali-quantitativa e ricercare componenti del latte che possano fungere da marcatori dello stato di benessere delle bovine.
Project title: Evaluation of management methods in relation to animal welfare in dairy farms in the south-east of Tuscany and relations with quantitative and qualitative production
Abstract: The livestock sector has long needed to achieve a series of interconnected objectives that have the responsibility of leading to breeding solutions increasingly oriented to the respect of the physiological and ethological needs of animals and the achievement optimal levels of sustainability. In recent years the emphasis has been on improving animal welfare, an issue that has gained more attention, including involving consumers and the general public, increasingly interested in ensuring good practice at all stages of the production chain, as it is closely linked to animal welfare and can have a decisive influence on production and quality. There are many factors that can affect the welfare of cows on the farm and cause unfavourable conditions that can induce the establishment of a stress mechanism and affect both the health of the animal, with physiological changes, productive and reproductive efficiency, as well as the immune status of the cow itself. The aim of the research project is to investigate the level of welfare, through the evaluation of direct and indirect indicators, of dairy farms located in the south-east of Tuscany, to observe and define the correlation between welfare and qualitative-quantitative production and to search milk components that can act as markers of the welfare status of the cows.
