Titolo Progetto: STUDIO DI PARAMETRI CLINICI E CLINICOPATOLOGICI UTILI NELLA GESTIONE CLINICA DELLE EPATOPATIE CRONICHE DEL CANE

Project title: CLINICAL AND CLINICOPATHOLOGICAL MARKERS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF CANINE CHRONIC HEPATOPATHIES

Abstract: Human chronic hepatopathies results in important metabolic and nutritional alteration. Many of these are related to the liver-gut reciprocal interaction (liver-gut axis). Alteration in biliary physiology and biliary acids metabolism are recognized in human patients presenting chronic enteropathies and dysbiosis. Dogs with chronic enteropathies showed a decreased biliary acids reabsorption and lower fecal secondary biliary acids. Those aspects are not well characterized in canine hepatopathic patients. We suppose that canine patients with chronic hepatopathies may present intestinal dysbiosis and fecal biliary acids alteration. In those patients, the liver-gut axis could influence the nutritional and metabolic situation. For this purpose, we want to assess intestinal microbiota and fecal biliary acids in hepatopathic dogs and to monitor nutritional condition and metabolic alteration such as serum proteins, amminoacids and vitamins.
